DO NOT DISTURB” SIGN….I’M WORKING FROM HOME

Today my video coaching call went something like this… and yep, this is REAL!

I was connected via video call with my client around 8am. My thinking was that my adult kids still visiting at home for the holidays would be asleep.

About 10 minutes into the call, my oldest son came downstairs looking for the car keys. He needed to go get his Covid test for his return international flight in 3 days, so he found it necessary to interrupt my session and ask for me to help him.

“Can you excuse me for a minute?” I say to my client, as I get up and try to help my son find the keys.

I return to the call, and begin to gain momentum again, and my client’s son walks into her bedroom to ask her a question.

She looks up and says, “Oh, hey,” to him, and he then comes on screen, we say “Hello.”

My client and I then started again where we left off.

A few minutes later, my husband is off his work call, walks through the room I’m in, and decided to wave hello to my client.

WTF? Umm….Privacy much? Luckily, they’ve met, so I’m not completely freaking out.

Ok, so I have to figure out how to gain momentum AGAIN in my one hour session with this client. Is she going to fire me today? Good grief!

We. Only. Have. One. Hour.

Interruption after interruption after interruption.

Oh wait, now her daughter is texting her…but her son just left with her daughter in the car to take her to school. She is distracted again to reply to text her daughter back.

I think we all feel the pain from the stop start of working from home, and how many interruptions and “home” related issues come up during our work at home days.

My first hour of work today most likely resonates with you, and it’d be fun to hear your stories. But here’s the thing…I’m grateful to have this wonderful family interrupting me and to not be alone. Some days really suck, I mean like, they are shit!

But remember, it’s your choice to laugh or get angry. I choose to laugh.
