WHAT IF ….

I got my 4th COVID vaccine booster shot in February.

These past two years have been challenging.

I was born with a rare health condition called Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) which means that my immune system does not protect me from viruses. I have had to stay in my house for two years now during this pandemic, only to be allowed out for a short time in the summer.

Here we are again with the rising infection rates, and I’ve been back on lockdown 🏠 again.

I work really hard at not living my life around my disease.

I’m pretty good at it.

It’s becoming more difficult, and I’ve begun to wonder about other people who are not wearing masks or choosing to not get vaccinated.

What if…they had an immune system like mine? If they were born without the antibodies to protect them from coughs, sneezes, and virus germs? Would they have a different perspective on the pandemic?

Would they be upset by people making the choice to not get the vaccine? How would they deal without socializing in person for two years to stay well and save their life?

I acknowledge we live in a country that allows us the freedom of choice, and I’m not telling anyone what to do.

But I keep wondering about the goodness of humanity. Where has this gone? What are we humans turning into?

What if… we all take a day and walk in someone else’s shoes. See how it feels. Don’t feel sorry for people like me; just try to understand and be kind to others. Let’s stop this madness and value every precious moment you are given.

My job isn’t done here yet, but I’m thankful to everyone working to keep people safe and for the vaccine!! Let’s see if we can all unite to help humanity get well. ❤️

Here’s a real face to go with my story.
